On Friday night, we aired the last installment of our five-part, 100 Greatest Women in Music series. If you happened to miss the countdown, it’s spoiler alert time: VH1 crowned Madonna as the greatest female artist of the last 20 years.
While it’s tough to argue with the musical legacy of Madonna, we received an incredible number of comments, emails, and tweets from our VH1 audience asking about their ability to participate in this countdown. Well, we listened and worked to put together the following bracket-style tournament of The 8 Greatest Women In Pop where you, the reader, will be able to select the most accomplished female artist in the pop music game right now. (Sorry, Adele fans: We figured that since she just swept the Grammys, she has enough awards for the moment, so we left her out of this tournament).
Our tournament will run today through next Monday, February 27, and our first round matchups are pretty outrageous: Lady Gaga vs. Madonna, Britney Spears vs. Rihanna, Katy Perry vs. Mariah Carey, and Jennifer Lopez vs. Beyoncé. One tiny administrative note: Be sure and get your first-round vote in by 11:59 p.m. EST on Wednesday, 2/22.

And the winner of MTV Britney´s video´s tournament is...

Over the course of two weeks, nearly one million votes cast in MTV News' Britney Spears Tournament: 30 Videos for 30 Years, and on Friday (December 2) — which also happens to be the pop superstar's 30 birthday — we reached our final tally.

You, the fans, decided the crown for the Best Britney Video of All Time is goes to ... "I'm A Slave 4 U"!

Released in September 2001, the Francis Lawrence-directed video is still as influential a pop music clip 10 years later. Britney performed the song for the first time at the '01 MTV Video Music Awards, using a jungle-themed set filled with exotic animals, including a tiger and a now-iconic white boa constrictor snake, which she wrapped around her shoulders.

"Slave" defeated the Chris Marrs Piliero-directed runner-up "Criminal" by a wide margin, with nearly 69 percent of the vote. "Criminal," Britney's most recent video from this year's Femme Fatale release, made its way to the top two by beating out some of Britney's best-loved videos, from "Stronger" to "I Wanna Go" to (in a shocking defeat) her debut video "... Baby One More Time." (via MTV.com)

At the end of round three, “Lucky” pushed ahead of “Till the World Ends” at the last minute, beating the newer video by less than 0.5 percent of the vote. And although “Stronger” held the lead for most of the third round, “Criminal” overpowered the 2000 video late Tuesday night.
Britney’s collaborator on “Me Against the Music,” Madonna, officially exited the tournament after the duet fell to “Hold It Against Me,” which also came as a last-minute surprise since the Brit/Madge collabo held the advantage for most of round three.
In perhaps the most competitive pairing of the third round, two of Britney’s widely celebrated videos, “Toxic” and “I’m a Slave 4 U” were pitted against each other, but sweaty Britney out-danced double-agent Britney. MTV News’ Britney video experts have already predicted that “Slave 4 U” will be the biggest threat in the Final Four.

Voting for the top four videos is open until 7 a.m. Thursday. The top two will be unveiled at 10 a.m. on Thursday morning, followed by the big reveal of the winner at 10 a.m. ET on Friday, Britney’s birthday!

Four of the eight matchups in round two of the tournament remained neck-and-neck until the moments the polls closed. After holding the advantage for most of the second round, “Everytime,” fell out of the tournament, losing to Britney’s diva alter ego in “Lucky.”
Two of Britney’s most dance-heavy videos, “(You Drive Me) Crazy” and “Me Against the Music,” were back and forth with each other for most of the round before Madonna and Britney’s hit lunged forward and sent green-tube-top Britney out of the tournament with less than 1 percent more of the votes.
Round three will see “Stronger” take on “Criminal” in a pairing that many thought would be “Oops! … I Did It Again” vs. “… Baby One More Time.” Of Britney’s three VMA-winning videos that remained in round two, only her most recent win, “Till the World Ends,” will move forward to battle it out with “Lucky.”
Round three will also see two of Britney’s most iconic videos, “Toxic” and “I’m a Slave 4 U,” go up against each other; only one of them will make it to the Final Four.
Round three is open for voting until Tuesday, November 29, at 11:59 p.m. The final four will be announced and open for voting on the morning of Wednesday, November 30.

Britney Spears Video Tournament Kicks Off Today!

Voting is now open for MTV News' Britney Spears Tournament: 30 Videos for 30 Years!

It's up to Britney fans and all MTV.com readers to vote in the first round, where we have pitted 30 of Britney's iconic videos against each other bracket-style to battle it out for the highest honor of being named the Best Britney Video Ever, just in time for Spears' 30th birthday December 2.

The first round of voting is open until Tuesday at 11:59 p.m., at which point the 30 videos will be narrowed down to the top 16. You can vote as many times as you wish and campaign as much as you see fit for your favorite videos to move on to the next round of voting.

Will the classic " ... Baby One More Time" go all the way? Or are we still intoxicated by "Toxic"? MTV News correspondents will weigh in with their picks, alongside celebrities and Britney experts alike.

Since 30 videos is an unusual number to balance a tournament bracket, we have automatically pushed forward two of Britney's VMA-winning videos videos — "Piece of Me" and "Till the World Ends" — to the second round, where they will no longer be safe from elimination.



Don't forget about the lesser-known videos that may not have received much airtime, including "My Prerogative" and "Do Somethin'," since there's something unique about each clip. Make your votes count — and remember, you are voting for your favorite videos, not songs!

Voting for round two begins at 7 a.m. Wednesday and will last all the way through Thanksgiving weekend, closing Sunday at 11:59 p.m.

As of Monday, November 28, we will begin with eight videos, then four, then two, until we announce the winner Friday, December 2 — Britney's actual 30th birthday!
